Site Map

Each summer during June through September, Emandal is open for families to come and enjoy the outdoors and the farm... without the bother of packing sleeping bags or preparing food.

Accommodations

There are 19 redwood cabins on the oak and fir clad hills, most were built by Al Byrnes between 1915 and 1925. Each cabin is furnished with beds (along with bed and bath linens), ceiling fans, cold spring water and electricity. A hammock is generally found adjacent or nearby.

Bathrooms and shower facilities are located in the camp area. Capacity is about 70 people, but we prefer to keep it around 60 - 65. We serve three meals most days (breakfast on Saturday, Dinner on Sunday), family style. There is no bar.

Hiking at Family Camp at EmandalProgram Activities

Believing that families truly need time to be together in an unstructured, pressure-free environment, we provide limited programmed activities. This allows you and your family to create your own adventures without feeling the stress of a highly structured schedule. You have the choice to be as active or inactive as you like!

The Eel River borders the ranch for three miles, offering all types of natural swimming holes, driftwood gathering, rock hunting or sunbathing. There are numerous hiking trails throughout our 1,000 acres of wooded hill-land. Many families bring their bikes for riding along the nearby country road and fishing gear to while away the hours at our lake waiting to catch bass or rainbow trout.

Or perhaps you and your kids would like to gain some hands-on experience as farmers. We always welcome folks to help us with farm chores. Throughout your stay you'll have the option to try your hand at berry picking, egg gathering, cow milking, tending our organic garden, harvesting vegetables for our kitchen, making snacks, or a variety of other daily tasks.

At night, the sky offers a brilliant display of summer constellations. The campfire circle has held people captive for hours, with songs, stories, skits and games.

And if you're just in the mood to rest and relax, feel free to sit in your hammock or throw a blanket on one of our lawns and curl up with a good book from our library.

Whatever you choose, it's your time to do as you wish.
