Environmental Ed

As the spring rains fall and the garden begins to grow, classes from around the state visit the farm for an exceptional educational experience of joy and wonder.
All around the farm new life and rebirth abound. Baby chicks, piglets, kids and calves pounce and jump and run. Songbirds nest and sing. Wild flowers take turns catching the eye and the grass on the hills is green. The sound of the rumbling river is always nearby. It is an exciting time on the farm -a time when the cycle of life is turning before your eyes.
The acres of surrounding forest, the river, the lake and the farm itself are the classroom in which the students will study. Daily hikes in the morning focus on enjoying and appreciating as well as investigating and exploring the surroundings.
Our program combines the study of nature with the experience of life on a farm. Chores are always part of the day, as are special projects like grinding corn and making cornbread, learning to use a two-person saw, or digging for native soaproot.
As a place to learn about the environment Emandal is unique because it is a working farm -a living model where people on a daily and year-round basis live in and interact with nature and the elements in a positive way. As the home for generations of Adams', it also feels like home to those visiting with its handcrafted redwood cabins, picturesque barn, one acre organic garden and family style meals.
For years Emandal, has had school children from nearby Willits spend time on the farm. Because of the demand for an interesting and exciting environmental program for both teachers and students we opened up the farm to schools outside the area for the first time in 1995. One teacher said, "This is the best environmental education program I have seen."
Classes stay for up to five days, Monday through Friday, beginning the third week in April through the first week in June.
