What to Bring to Family Camp
Q: "So, what do you think people should bring to the farm?"
A: "...Just bring clothes they'd take tent camping...as many shorts and t-shirts for their children as the number of days they are staying, unless they either plan to go to Willits on Wednesday to do laundry, or they achieve a state of non-reactive bliss about how dirty their children will happily manage to get..."
So, as has been suggested:
- Clothes for camping, hiking, swimming in the river, sitting by the campfire, getting to and from the shower-house: shorts, pants, shirts, swimming suits, shoes, socks, sweats.
- Toiletries of your choosing, but Technu or another anti-poison oak potion would be useful. Bug repellant and/or long sleeves for dusk.
- Don't forget beach towels and river toys (rafts, floaties, etc.), a flashlight, and musical instruments and group games.
- Snacks for your kids... we don't provide between meal edibles, and stores are a ways away. A cooler is a good idea, to keep food and/or drinks. Many folks like to bring S'mores supplies for campfire nights.
- We urge you to bring refillable water bottles. Our water is fresh from the spring.
What NOT to Bring
- There is no cell phone reception on the farm, so plan to have it turned off during your stay.
- We offer limited access to the web (for a fee) using your own computer in the office. We have satellite Internet which restricts our daily download allowance. As such we ask that our guests limit their use of the web to checking email and perhaps the news. Skyping, streaming video, downloading large files is not allowed as it will quickly use up our daily allowance thereby bringing our Internet access to a screeching halt.
- Leave the portable TVs, and broadcastable iPods at home. Your music or movies may be great to you, but others may want to listen to the birds and other sounds of nature!
- Water cannons/guns are best used elsewhere.
- Even game-boys or other electronic gadgets aren't appreciated by most folks who come here.
- And cigarettes/cigars are all but banned!
Let us know if you'd like to talk to veteran family-campers - we have lots of folks who are happy to share their experiences and answer your questions!
