Nature Journaling….In the shade of the Curly Willow Tree
Workshop Title: Nature Journaling with Laura Corben
Which Session? June 24-28, 2026
Workshop Description: The point of journaling is to pay attention and explore, appreciate this fascinating world “and renew a sense of belonging within it.” Emandal is the perfect place to practice Nature Journaling. There is so much to notice and enjoy here in the garden and along the trails.
The tools are simple and easy to carry with you: a sketchbook, pen and pencil, colored pencils, travel watercolor set. Be ready to ask questions about what you see, to notice and to wonder.
Level of Experience: Any
Additional Supplies Participants Must Bring to Workshop:
Canson Mixed Media 7x10 sketchbook
a basic mechanical pencil, a soft eraser
waterproof pens (Micron or Pitt pens)
12 colored pencils and a sharpener (I prefer Prismacolor, some like watercolor pencils)
Winsor Newton 12 half pan watercolor set or equivalent
small tape measure or ruler
*Nice to have a designated art supply bag to keep things simple and organized
Where else have you taught this workshop or a similar course? I have been an artist and art teacher for a long time and didn’t realize Nature Journaling was “a thing” until a few years ago. It has been a great way to explore the world, to keep a record, remember and learn. I enjoy sharing “how to” with others, and have done so at the Willits Center for the Arts, Mendocino Art Center, and with individual groups.
